Pumpkin Book Report: Pumpkin Book Reports are due on Friday, October 19th. Remember to be creative and have fun with these projects. If you are able, please send in the book with your project. These will be displayed in the hallway. Fall Field Trip: The Fall Field Trip is October 25th in Downtown Wendell. This date was changed, due to a conflict in scheduling. Students will participate in a scavenger hunt, so they can apply their mapping skills learned in Social Studies and as well as their understanding of goods and services. Also, students will observe the weather the week of the field trip, so they can anticipate what to wear on the field trip. If students have not turned in their permission forms for the trip, please make sure to do this by the beginning of next week so chaperone arrangements can be made as quickly as possible. ___________________ Do you want to send your child a letter at school? This Week's Topics
Reading & Writing Skill: Main Idea Students will continue working on the reading skill main idea. They will work on identifying the main topic of a multiparagraph text and the focus of each paragraph within the text. They will develop a better understanding of how certain details within the text support the main idea. Students will also continue to build on their understanding of strong verbs used within their writing. |
Letterland Unit: 9 → Vowel Men Out Walking (ee, ea) Students will learn the story of the vowel men. When two vowel men go out walking the first one waves and says his name, but the second man won’t do the same. He is the silent look-out man making sure the robot Vowel Stealers don’t capture them (e.g. reach, feel). These two vowel pairs help introduce a new syllable type, the Vowel Team Syllable, in which two or more adjacent letters represent one vowel phoneme (eg. ea, ee, ai, ay, oo, ou, ow, igh). |
